This generation is an evil generation; it asks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah.
Luke 11: 29 – 32
The truth is Jesus could have been speaking to me in this scripture. It is frightening, to think, that I can be referred to as an “evil generation!” I could think of times on my spiritual journey when bombarded with difficulties, that my faith took a downturn amid the uncertainties. I did surely asked God for some sign that he was with me or a sign as to what to do.
In retrospect, God did send signs, but not what I wanted or expected. I attempted to put God in a box just as the ‘crowds’ had done. I failed to hold on to the many promises that God has given in His Word and to remember the many miracles, seen and unseen, that he had done in my life and continues to do.
Now I know that in such situations, all I need to do is spend more time reflecting on God’s unfailing love for me, by giving me a sign “greater than Jonah”, His son Jesus Christ.
