Thursday February 25th: Surrendering and trusting in the asking.

“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:”

Matthew 7:7-11

In today’s gospel we are reminded of the love of our Heavenly Father, we are urged to knock, to seek, to ask through prayer our needs and those of others.

As children of God we are invited to present our needs, whatever they may be to a Father who desires good things for his children. Our disposition should not be one of worry and frustration but of surrender. Surrendering to a Father who wants what is best for us. The words of today’s gospel do not say everything we ask of the Lord we will receive. Sometimes what we think we need, God has something better in store. He also knows exactly when we need it.

And so in asking, we go to God in faith, we place our needs at His feet because God cares for us. He wants what is best for us but we also must have faith that God will do what is best and whatever He does will benefit us, for “He works all things together for good to those that love Him and are called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28)
