Beware the yeast of the Pharisee.
Mark 8:14-21
“When Jesus asks his disciples: “Do you still not realise? Have you eyes and do not see, ears and do not hear?” He was challenging them and us to look beyond the surface of things and not be fooled.
No matter how difficult a situation may be, how glum an issue may present itself God will always provide a way out. We just have to look and listen intently. How often things happen to us and we feel it is the end of the world; we run helter skelter looking for a solution sometimes in the wrong places.
For Jesus, the Pharisees and Herod, the “yeast”, were the ones to beware of since they could not deliver the real yeast. Jesus, the true yeast, provides bread for thousands with limited resources, showing he always takes care of his own if only we would look and listen. When will we understand? When will we realise?
Lord, help us to see and listen, to trust because we are loved. Blessed be the Lord!
