“Bittersweet” time for some Catholic musicians

For several years now in our beloved Trinidad and Tobago; numerous boys, girls, men and
women have disappeared. Some have returned home but many have never been found.
Sadly, some have been found murdered…beautiful lives full of potential…discarded. Our
most recent cases have sent our country into that tailspin of grief, anger and, for many, a
sense of hopelessness. There is a very loud clamour for justice! There is an extremely high-pitched shout of blood for blood, destruction for destruction. The people want justice!
The National Catholic Men’s Ministry (NCMM) of Trinidad and Tobago joins our brothers
and sisters in this deep and heart-wrenching reality of where we are as a nation. As a
ministry to, with, for, and by men, we accept that most of the perpetrators of these heinous
crimes are, in fact, men. We also understand that the men of our nation must play a pivotal
role in reforming our society, communities and homes.
Justice, as necessary as it is, usually comes after the fact. The crimes have been already committed and punishing the guilty persons does not reverse the serious damage done. The critical and present questions are how have we come to this and what can we do to prevent more lives being destroyed?
The NCMM has been working at bringing men to the place where we recognise that we have
been given a divine mandate by God to be the spiritual heads of our homes; to lead our sons
and daughters to develop the wonderful version of themselves they were created to be. The
general truth is, our sons will become us and our daughters will marry men like us. This
means that we as men must embark on a deep process of transformation in order to break the
chains of violence and destructive relationships.
The NCMM is convinced that this process of transformation MUST include a spiritual change, an encounter with Jesus Christ, and some serious introspection. If men would lead their sons and boys in their sphere of life to become righteous, Godfearing, respectful men who understand the power and beauty of their masculinity, then we will change the newspaper headlines. We will begin to replace gruesomeness with heroic acts of sacrifice and bravery; chivalry and respect for life! The work must begin now! We cannot continue to lay blame on “those other people anymore”. All men have a role to play, as fathers, uncles, grandfathers, brothers and mentors. Let us pray and work to reform our sweet T&T.

and protection for his family.
It begins on February 15 and culminates with the actual consecration on March 19 – St Joseph’s Day. You can all be part of this.
