Night and day, while he sleeps, when he is awake, the seed is sprouting and growing, he does not know.
Mark 4: 26 – 34.
The kingdom of God is compared to a seed. In the first instance it is like a seed someone sows in the ground and is left to sprout and grow. In the second instance it is like a seed that has sprouted and grown and provides shelter for the birds.
A seed is both mystery and hope. Mystery because we are not sure how it sprouts and grows. After sowing it we can only wait and see. Hope because we expect it to sprout and grow and bear fruit.
There is so much mystery about God’s kingdom. It is present but silent and unseen. It is working but we are not sure how and how much. Only later on we see the effects of its presence and unseen work.
What do we do while the kingdom remains hidden like a seed that is sown? We keep hopeful. We hope that in God’s time and way He will reveal Himself to the benefit of all.
