2021 reminders

Last year, 2020 elucidated the uncertainty of life. As it progressed, there was the acknowledgment that though things are not going according to my plan, they are going according to God’s plan. Entering 2021, my prayer is that:

God grants me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,

Courage to change the things I can,

And wisdom to know the difference.

A few situations forced me out of my comfort zone, causing me to become anxiety-ridden. I doubted my abilities and, more regrettably, God’s. In earnestly reciting this Serenity Prayer, my request is to remain untroubled, even in troubling situations beyond my control. My first reminder to self this year is: I am not alone; God is omnipresent and omniscient.

Inevitably, the worrying spurred discouragement. As such, it is only fitting that my request for courage accompanies my initial request for serenity. Quoting Mark Twain, my second reminder this year is: “Courage is the resistance to fear, mastery of fear — not absence of fear.”

Recognising God as the creator and director of my live was imperative. As such, He should take me, shape me, mould me, change me, fill me, and use me. My final request is for my ear to listen to His voice and to understand how and when He wants me to act in fulfilling my purpose. My final reminder this year is: His sovereign hand will be my guide.

Do you have any self-reminders for 2021? Whatever they may be, also note: “The will of God will not take us where the grace of God cannot sustain us.” —Billy Graham.
