Christina Mora’s secret to feeling like 16-years-old at age 90

“I feel like 16!” Christina Mora said with a chuckle.

Mora isn’t 16; she’s 90, and celebrated this milestone on her birthday December 25, Christmas Day.
She told Catholic News her family had a “big celebration” for her birthday, albeit virtually, which included her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren overseas.

Mora has over 60 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren and counting.
Her granddaughter Donna Mora describes her grandmother as a “wonderful mother, amazing grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.”

“She has an open heart and home to many, including students from Canada whom she accommodated in 1974”.

Mora comes from the Garcia family of four brothers and three sisters. She married Frank Winter Mora (deceased) and bore 15 children. Mora is a devout Roman Catholic, and a parishioner of La Veronica RC, Lopinot. She spends her life devoted to her children and her faith.

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, the celebration was not held in the traditional Lopinot style, but the community shared the special occasion virtually on Sunday, January 3 when Mora was visited by Penelope Beckles, Minister of Housing and Urban Development, the Member of Parliament for Arima. Of this visit, Mora joked, “I will have to say I’m a popular person in the area. I feel like a queen presently. [I’m] still celebrating because allyuh still calling me,” she said with laughter.

So, what’s her secret to living to age 90?

Mora simply attributes it to her strong faith in God, a quality her late husband possessed. He died at 93.

She shared that though living in a time of pandemic is something she has not experienced before; she is not afraid.

When asked of what she’s most looking forward to for 2021, Mora replied: “Que sera, sera” (what will be, will be).
