‘The bride is only for the bridegroom.
John 3:22-30
This gospel reading tells us that Jesus and John were both baptizing at the same time but in different regions. This seems to have confused John’s disciples for they asked him about it for they knew that Jesus was also baptizing.
John once again shows his humility and lets them know that he was only a precursor to the real Christ, but he was happy to be working for Jesus. We too must be happy when we hear the voice of Jesus through his teachings in the gospel. We must realize that we are only his friend and do not know everything, but we are happy to do his bidding as he has asked through his commandments of love.
We do not own the Church but we are servants who should be ready to make Christ known to the world. We should be humble, and happy to have this as our mission, as John says, ‘He must grow greater, I must grow smaller’.
