Thursday December 24th: A promise is a promise!

“This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham, that he would grant us, free from fear, to be delivered from the hands of our enemies”

Luke 1:67-79

In today’s scripture passage, after nine months, a dumb Zechariah burst out in a song of praise to God. What would you do? I could identify with Zechariah. For many months my lack of faith made me “dumb.” My words sounded empty and someone who knows me closely, said to me, “You are saying one thing, but I am not hearing any joy!”
On the other hand, ‘being dumb’ forced me into silence to listen more deeply to what God was saying in the situation. I came to know that God’s promises concerning me will never fail and He walks with me in his tender mercy. I was reminded that however bleak a situation may seem, by his victory on the cross, all things and persons have been redeemed. That has given me great joy, peace and hope.
On this Christmas Eve, I pray that the Holy Spirit will so fill all of us that we could joyfully glorify God and confidently spread his praises wherever we may be.
