“And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “My friend, your sins are forgiven.”
Luke 5: 17 – 26
I visualise this account each time and end up in tears from laughing. However, peeling away the comedy and getting into the meat of the story, without the help of the paralytic’s four determined friends, he could never have made his way to Jesus to be healed.
How can I help a friend to find healing in Christ?
It wasn’t the faith of the crippled that got him healed but the faith of his friends, to which Jesus responded, “And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “My friend, your sins are forgiven.”
When we forgive, and when we are forgiven, a crippling burden is lifted from our shoulders. As the man in this account, we can then rise and walk.
This is what our Advent Season is about, – we are commemorating the first coming of our Saviour Lord, and we are also preparing a welcome for this Saviour Lord into our own hearts, and the present world. Ask for forgiveness and remember to forgive.
