Four persevere, finally welcomed to the Church

Excitement mounted as the four RCIA candidates from St Dominic’s, Penal, made their final preparation for the Sacraments of Initiation into the Catholic Church.

The road towards this moment was so uncertain due to COVID-19 restrictions. However, these candidates persevered together with their catechists, and like Daniel, overcame obstacles one by one.

The parish was really on the journey too, encouraging them through Friday evening Masses, face to face and virtual, and keeping in contact during lockdown. Catechetical instructions were ad hoc but the fruits of faith were alive.

Their celebration began Friday, November 20 with the 60th anniversary Mass of St Martin de Porres, Morne Diable and culminated at the Saturday 21 celebration of Christ the King at Penal.

The joy of living a life in Christ through the Catholic Church reflected on their faces and tears of joy as they received their first Holy Communion and the unity with Christ was felt.

The entire congregation was moved by this truly evangelical celebration.

Thanks to parish priest Fr Robert Christo who encouraged them and was always present to them. Father and the entire congregation resounded in praise at the end because Christ was truly King of all present.

The St Dominic’s, Penal community welcomes all the candidates and their families to our parish and thank you all for your determination and witness of faith. You have truly helped us not to take faith and the Church for granted. Blessings on your faith journey.
