Praying Through the Storm

Staff at Catholic Media Services Limited’s (CAMSEL) were among the participants responding to the call from the Archdiocese of Port of Spain to join in united intercession in “storming the heaven with prayer” for the restoration of families in Trinidad and Tobago.

The 24-hour prayerathon ‘Praying Through the Storm’ commenced 6.30 a.m. Friday, November 6 with Holy Mass with Archbishop Jason Gordon, and culminated Saturday 7 with Holy Mass at 6.30 a.m. by Fr Dwight Merrick.

CAMSEL staff were assigned to pray for the nation and government on Friday from 1–1.30 p.m.

Prayers included petitions for national pride, leadership past and present, judiciary and prison systems, bridging government and Church, governance and democracy offices, health for all, defence and police forces, CARICOM and Caribbean, poor and vulnerable, management of crises, government and overseas mission, citizenry, culture, and the media.

The 30-minute virtual session included national songs: ‘God Bless Our Nation’ and ‘Lord Heal Our Land’ as background music. Persons were encouraged to wear national colours and use national symbols in the background.

‘Praying Through the Storm’ was conceived after it was observed that people in our country have been losing faith and hope in the midst of this pandemic and all the associated trials.

The 24-hour prayerathon was livestreamed on Facebook and Zoom sessions to all vicariates, Catholic schools, religious communities, ecclesial communities, all youths, and ministries of the Church.
