Generation S to launch volunteerism programme

Called to be a ‘YESSER’!

“I ask the Church to continue to promote vocations. May she touch the hearts of the faithful and enable each of them to discover with gratitude God’s call in their lives, to find courage to say ‘yes’ to God.” —Pope Francis

You’ve probably heard of ‘zessers’ but let us introduce you to ‘Yessers’. A Generation S initiative to activate volunteerism in communities across Trinidad and Tobago!

Active volunteerism and its various subsets are excellent ways for the young and young at heart to enter the world of selfless service according to Fr Matthew d’Hereaux, vocations director and head of Team Generation S’. “Getting engaged in various forms of volunteer activities provides an ideal launchpad to a life of service. Generation S and its team recognises that fact and will soon embark on an exciting interactive volunteer programme that will engage the attention of young people across Trinidad & Tobago,” he said.

It all starts by saying ‘YES’,  in answering the call to a life of service. Acknowledging and yielding to the call of Our Father is the beginning of the journey—the journey to Yearn, Earn, Serve—the journey to YES is the journey of a ‘YESser’.

Over the next couple of months, Team Generation S will embark on a campaign to persuade young people aged 16–30 years to register and join its group of ‘Yessers’.

When the registration process is complete, Team Generation S will host virtual, interactive youth meetings that will be appropriately themed with a celebratory feel. These ‘Yessers’ youth meetings will be the platform for engaging and empowering our youth to action.

Active volunteerism can assume various forms – Skills-based volunteering, International/Regional volunteering, and Virtual volunteering to name a few. Team Generation S proposes to harness the energy and enthusiasm of ‘Yessers’ across Trinidad and Tobago to effect change in a positive, meaningful tangible way utilising volunteerism.

“Yessers will be a movement, an outlet, an inspiration for young people to get involved, get interactive, get inspired and yet observe high ideals,” Fr Matthew said.

“The experts are now telling us that the pandemic is affecting us in different ways even when we don’t actually get COVID-19. Families and family life for instance are under threat because of that sense of being seemingly ‘locked down’ against our will. ‘Yessers’ gives the youth a chance to come together, celebrate together, celebrate each other, and celebrate with God. The feelings, the emotions and the activism that we engender in these young ‘Yessers’, we feel will transmit into their homes and into the wider community. Team Generation S is eager and excited to get our ‘Yessers’ programme started and out there,” Fr Matthew ended

Just say YES!
