Igniting of Faith in our Catholic Homes (The Domestic Church)
In this challenging time in our world, our faith is doubly tested and as Catholics we need to encourage each other to foster practices that help to keep us centred in our faith and close to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. The St Benedict’s First Communion candidates and their parents were encouraged to dedicate a special space in their homes to have family prayer time, to encourage their children to pray, to develop reverence and to remember the Liturgical times and colours of the Church.
A parent shared with us a reflection on what is done in their family using their home prayer corner or altar: –
“Our family altar is a place of reflection where after every day what we have been through, good or bad, we go and give thanks. We reflect on the Word of the Lord together and before bed we read from the Children’s Bible story book as well as our children’s book of psalms together, which encourage conversations about our faith. Here we are reminded that no matter what, we can always turn to God. Daily we put flowers on our altar, light our candle and say our prayers. We each use this space in our own quiet moments also remembering that God said ‘But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you’.” – Bunbury Family
