“The opportunity to be blessed is within our grasp…don’t let it slip away.”
Luke 11: 27-28
Imagine the scene – Jesus has just driven out a devil, a great feat; now he is addressing both his admirers and detractors with an authority and eloquence that astounds, confounds, and charms the listeners.
A woman from the crowd, the local feminist perhaps, takes the opportunity to gain points for womankind. “Blessed is the womb…” she shouts. The unnamed woman was not wrong. Jesus Son of Man stood in their midst because a woman had given him flesh when she said ‘yes’ to God’s divine plan for salvation.
Jesus’ response is instructive. “But even more blessed are all who hear the word of God and put it into practice.”
Only one woman would ever be found worthy to be the mother of God. But like her, the invitation to obedience is open to all of us. The opportunity to be blessed is within our grasp if we would just hear the word of God and act. Don’t let it slip away.
Almighty God, may I always be attentive to Your word and quick to respond, knowing obedience brings blessings.
