October 7th: In His Footsteps

There is no underestimating the power of a good habit.

Luke. 11: 1-4

Jesus’ prayer habit was not only a powerful testimony of his connection with the Father, but also served as an example for his disciples to emulate. Their poignant request, “ Lord, teach us to pray”, seems to emanate from a deep desire to follow in his footsteps.

My desire to be an educator, and later my practice,  were based on the powerful example of my Standard One teacher. That did not make me a perfect teacher but I had something to work with.

When I consider that there is no underestimating the power of a good habit, today’s Gospel passage has brought me to a place of deep introspection and soul searching. This is not only with respect to my prayer habit, and God knows that needs addressing, but also with respect to my disposition, life choices and actions as a follower of Jesus. Can others emulate and in so doing remain connected with the Father?

Lord, teach me not only to pray but to live following your loving example. Amen.
