“Blessed are the eyes that see what you see”
Luke 10:17-24
We all know what undertaking a journey entails. We understand and look forward to arriving at the destination chosen. We also know there are different routes, various sights and challenges along the way, but our sight is focused on where we have set out to go.
Today’s Gospel passage is reminding us to set our eyes on our final destination, eternal life. The disciples were excited and were rejoicing over their achievements. Jesus, however, quickly reminded them what they should not be excited by what was happening here on earth but rather that their names are written in heaven.
This is indeed a timely message for each of us. All our good deeds and achievements are part of the journey but far from the destination. This means that we must constantly be reviewing where we are and seeking God, through the Holy Spirit, to guide us.
We therefore must give thanks and praise to be privileged that we can be among the chosen for “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see.”
