September 18th: To be like Jesus

Missionaries are not moved by their own desires to change the world, they are moved by God to fulfill His will in the world.

Luke 8: 1 – 3.

Jesus was a true missionary. The gospel says that he made his way through towns and villages preaching and proclaiming the kingdom of God. That is what missionaries do. They move from place to place preaching good news.

Jesus’ life makes us ask, Are we true missionaries? The missionary is not anchored. He/she reaches out in concern, through prayer and in support of others, especially the most disadvantaged. He/she reaches out in person to others, even when they are in hard to reach places. If we are willing to go out for others, ready to help, ready to get involved, we are missionaries after the heart and practice of Jesus.

Missionaries undergo their own conversion so that they can be like Jesus, see like Jesus, listen like Jesus and develop a heart of compassion like Jesus. Missionaries are not moved by their own desires to change the world, they are moved by God to fulfill His will in the world.
