September 17th: Love is the answer

Only love can transform the human heart..

Luke 7: 36-50

It took me a couple years of teaching to learn that if I wanted the best out of my students I had to treat them with respect and love. I discovered the importance of building relationships of trust and positivity. The result was overwhelming with improved grades and behaviour because the students felt loved.
The Gospel passage for today brings out the stark contrast between a ‘sinner’ restored and one who believes he is not a sinner because he observes the law; a ‘law’ that blinds him and makes him, though a good man, narrow minded. The woman, recognizing her need of Jesus ‘crashed’ the dinner party and pours out her love at his feet, giving her all. Jesus responds to the woman with a love that takes the form of healing and radical forgiveness. Only love can transform the human heart..
Lord , we pray that as church we build up one another and celebrate the goodness in each person and remove our judgmental hearts and let the love flow. Amen
