‘Jesus Christ, son of David, son of Abraham’
Matthew 1: 1-16, 18-23
This gospel reading tells us of the genealogy of Jesus, Son of God, and we notice that among his ancestors there are both good and bad characters.
Today many of us like to look up our family tree especially to see what our ancestors looked like, to know if we are of good stock. This passage is showing us, however, that regardless of how many of our forefathers were good or bad we can take control of our lives and end up as a follower of Christ.
Jesus has told us that he is the way, the truth and the life. If we follow him, therefore, we will be going along the right track, regardless of our ancestry. I am sure we know of parents who have both good and wayward children. It is up to us then, regardless of parentage, to take the road that leads to eternal life.
