Jesus addresses the scribes and pharisees in today’s gospel reading and points out their hypocrisy and double standards. They portray themselves as holy and devout yet He who sees all knows the condition of their heart.
This message of hypocrisy and a deeper call to live authentically whereby what I say and do is a true reflection of who I am rings true to everyone of us today. God is inviting us to a higher calling, a deeper place of reverence unlike the practice of the scribes and pharisees. He knows our mind and our heart and like a loving Father he forgives and is calling us to change, to become the men and women that He wants us to be.
