August 28th: Behold The Bridegroom

Christian waiting is alertness, anticipation and being ready to meet the Lord at a moment’s notice. Matthew 25: 1 – 13

Today’s parable is about waiting. No one can escape waiting since it is part of life. How we wait is key.

The parable is about ten bridesmaids waiting for the bridegroom who unfortunately was late. They had no choice but to wait. Many weddings involve delays and waiting which cause fretting, anxiety and anger, especially for those who are o time.

The teaching is more about Christian waiting than the ordeals of a delayed wedding. Christians are waiting for the bridegroom who is Christ. It is the second coming which no one knows the day or the hour.

The uncertainty involved in Christ’s coming, is problematic to faith. While in life we may give in to the boredom of waiting, Christians must not lose faith in the Lord’s coming. Christians cannot fall asleep, like the five foolish bridesmaids who were completely unaware when the bridegroom finally did arrive. Christian waiting is alertness, anticipation and being ready to meet the Lord at a moment’s notice.
