Peter was better off to have dared to walk on water and had the opportunity to cry out ‘Lord save me!’
Matthew 14:22-33
When crossing a river on thin ice, caution is useful; but doubt is death. Fear comes over you like a huge wave. The call bounces off the waves, ‘Come to me over the water.’ Peter longed for the Lord to call him out. He so wanted to conquer his fear.
The doubtful mind is wearisome for the journey. Peter’s pocketful of doubt dragged him down: the lucky charm for safety, dollar for bread in case they caught nothing, fake ID if stopped by a Roman soldier, a whistle to prevent the cock from crowing, a concise leadership manual; all magic doubt erasers.
If you are not mindful the second wave of fear will drown you. A little faith is enough. It grows by being tested. Good boats don’t stay in the harbour for safety. Peter was better off to have dared to walk on water and had the opportunity to cry out ‘Lord save me!’
If you never cry, ‘Lord save me!’ then you may be still safe in your harbour.
