“It is wonderful for us to be here; let us build three tents.”
Matthew 17:1-9
The annual two weeks at Liturgy School in those days on the Mount had the makings of a ‘mountain-top experience’ somewhat similar to that of Peter, James and John. They are completely bowled over by the company of Moses and Elijah (representing the Law and the Prophets), the revelation of the glory of the Son of God and the declaration by the Father.
Catholic Tradition, the rudiments of Liturgy and the call to be ‘Church’ as articulated by our presenters were revelations; not to mention meeting our Caribbean brothers and sisters and participating in workshops which unearthed talents and honed skills! The song in our heart was ‘ it is wonderful for us to be here…..’ Like Peter, we wanted to build tents were it not for constant reminders that we must leave the Mount and go back to our families, parishes, communities and make the mountain-top experience count for something.
So too we must do after Spirit-filled Retreats, Conferences, Personal Encounters with Christ at Mass or Adoration. Mountain-top experiences have a price : Mission!
