July 26th: Hidden treasures

When God Himself can’t come, He always sends someone to unwrap before our eyes the many gifts He scatters along the way.

Matthew 13: 44-52

Not one, but two journeys await the true disciple. The first, follows faithfully the footsteps of Jesus, the One sent by the Father to guide us safely Home. The second, an urgent, interior journey deeper and deeper into his own life, to find the precious gift, the treasure hidden there by the Maker Himself. And neither journey is complete without the other.

If the first is measured in miles, the second measures the miracles of kindness and gifts of love that light our way. One returns to a slowly receding past; another, reaching for a future known to God alone. All we know, when God Himself can’t come, He always sends someone to unwrap before our eyes the many gifts He scatters along the way.

Then we understand that more than simply follow Him, the true disciple bows down to examine the footprints of a restless God who shares every moment of his life, and discovers the treasures He buries there. And when that treasure is ours, another day begins; another journey, another life.
