We have to be creative in our communication and teaching methods
Matthew 13:10-17
The social teachings of the Church offer us many approaches to be effective in our parishes- reaching out to and engaging the poor and vulnerable as subjects in their own movement into better living situations. This reading is insightful in making our ministry more relational, emanating from our Triune God and modeled on Jesus’ own ministry strategies.
Firstly, we must be creative in our communication and teaching methods as was Jesus. Secondly, Jesus’ exhortation using Isaiah’s text reminds us of the SEE/JUDGE/ACT method developed by Cardinal Joseph Cardijn. We, who have been given much, have to see and see again, listen and listen again.
This is the critical stage of SEEing – What is happening in our situation, our parishes now? What are the signs of the times? As we reopen our churches, what are we seeing and hearing? As we work we are called to see with our eyes, hear with our hears and understand; JUDGE, analyse what we have seen and heard and be converted. It is only then we can ACT.
