July 9th: Proclaim the Kingdom at Home

‘Jesus desires that we share the gifts and graces we receive with others…and charity begins at home.’

Matthew 10:7-15

Today’s Gospel presents ‘The Commissioning Part 2.’ The disciples are being sent out and Jesus gives an action plan of sorts for how they are to accomplish the mission. Cure the sick; cast out devils; give without charge; trust those you encounter to provide your needs; leave your peace wherever you go.
It’s strange to contemplate ‘going out’ during these pandemic times with movement restricted. Yet, having journeyed from the desert to the Upper Room, we know it is the domestic church being missioned now.
Jesus desires that we share our gifts and graces with others who are in need, and charity begins at home. We are sent by God on a mission to share the Gospel, and it is to those closest to us, our families, that we must now proclaim the message. Let us share our faith, and proclaim that the peace and joy of the Kingdom is close at hand.
Gracious Lord help us, the Domestic Church, to become a living sign of the Kingdom of heaven on earth.
