‘The kingdom of heaven is close at hand’
Matthew 10: 1-7
We notice in this passage in Matthew that Jesus is choosing his twelve disciples who are given a particular mission and that Matthew calls them out by name. This indicates to me that they were not a random group, but specially picked out. When you are in a large group and get specially selected you feel a sense of pride and greater commitment to the group.
We know too that these disciples did not have any great talent of oratory or of convincing people and were not as educated as the Pharisees. Their strong point was their willingness to follow Jesus.
From our Baptism we were chosen by name, by Jesus. He has given us the same mission to proclaim that the kingdom of heaven is close at hand. We have to decide if by our fruits we are ready to show this to the world or like Judas, we are self-seeking.
