You are the Christ, he said “the Son of the Living God”.
Matthew 16: 13 – 19
Truthfully, what answer would you have proffered? Many of us would flippantly purport that our response would surely not have been that of the ‘people’ encompassing titles and attributes. It would have been deeper instead, similar to Peter’s or exactly the same: “You are the Christ, he said “the Son of the Living God”.
Peter’s answer was not of flesh and blood but based on his belief, establishing the ‘Mystery of Faith’; Jesus’ essence that we often fail to comprehend. Jesus was human and He is God; He existed from all eternity!
Today, we honour the martyrdom of St. Peter and St. Paul, incredibly important foundations in the history of our Christian faith, representing the stability of the Church and, our prophetic and missionary roles respectively.
We are experiencing significant uncertainty and exponential changes to our world. Consequently, we are challenged to take a greater step in, and recommit ourselves to a deeper understanding and appreciation of our faith and our role in establishing Jesus as the Christ, the Son of the Living God!
