June 23rd: Enter through the narrow gate’

The church retained its employees taking the narrow road of life-giving policies.

Matthew 7:6, 12-14

The time of COVID lockdown revealed many holy treasures we have as a people and as a church. During this time we used these treasures in the service of the people of God – provided hampers to many of our sisters and brothers who slipped into need and those who sunk deeper; a treasure of life giving that we do well as Catholics.

We responded to people who were the victims of unholy acts of layoffs. People who were the victims of those who did not follow the golden rule – not doing unto others…. as Jesus commanded, but who looked after themselves.

I applaud our Catholic church for retaining its employees, taking the narrow road of life-giving policies. As we open our Churches we have hundreds whom we helped the easy way. Now we must walk through the narrow gate with them where it is hard, but the road leads to life. Let’s work with the needy in more sustainable ways. Let’s see if we can work with them to ‘learn how to fish’.
