June 11th: No old bread eh!

This is the bread that came down from heaven, not like that which your ancestors ate

John 6:51-58

The great lockdown of 2020 redefines Church, God and Faith for me. I have been attending the same church for thirty-two years. It was my grandmother’s church. We are the family that has been cleaning the church for decades.. In 2020 for three months nothing that we knew or did before mattered. We had to be new Catholics, such that if my grandmother were alive she would not recognize. One Sunday while looking at online Mass I saw that my eighty-seven year old aunt, was also online watching and my heart overflowed.
On another occasion I realized that I was at Mass with my cousins from Point Fortin, my friend from Arima, and all the persons with whom I usually attend Mass.. I was overjoyed. It is a different bread, not the one my ancestors ate, but still I am eating of the Bread of Life in a different way.
When Church reopens this weekend may we rejoice, for now we know for sure that our Lord has sustained us.
