Be touched, keep and teach…
Matthew 5:17-19
Today’s Gospel invites us to appreciate that change is not necessarily an abandonment of our past or how we are accustomed to things. The Gospel points to the possibility of viewing change as a fulfillment, an amelioration, a betterment, a completion of what we already are and have and do. Allowing change to build on what went before rather than seeing change as throwing away the old.
Jesus’ touch upon our hearts is that completion of the very essence of who we are. His touch upon our lives calls us to a changed way of being. Then we ‘keep’ his commandments and ‘teach’ others to do the same. We teach others to open themselves up to allow Jesus to touch their lives, to build on what went before and make them into who God truly intended them to be.
