This is what he taught them’
Matthew 5: 1-12
This passage in Matthew is what is popularly known as The Beatitudes and can be considered the blueprint of Jesus’ ministry, for we find that everything he teaches is related to one or other of these sayings. If we should live them we will find that we have the earth for our heritage and ours will be the kingdom of heaven. The problem is if we believe and are ready to follow them.
We can see the truth of what Jesus is teaching us for we have the experience that those who are ‘poor in spirit’ are people who do not have riches as their priority, and their reward in this life is that they are more at peace with themselves and others.
The same can be said of anyone who is faithfully living any of the other Beatitudes. If you concentrate on living just one, yours will be the kingdom of heaven.
