“God is Family”
John 3: 16-18
Journeying through the dark, Nicodemus came to Jesus,
on a path from disbelief to life’s saving truth.
We all follow that same path, sooner or later.
On the way, like Nicodemus, we are soon joined by the Son,
sent by a loving Father to lead us safely Home.
He descends into the valleys where we labor,
searching the darkness where we lose our way
amid sorrows and burdens of every day.
As we enter the ordinary time of the Church’s year,
and make our way through darkness and doubt,
through the challenges and uncertainties that await us,
today’s Gospel reminds us that Jesus is also coming to meet us,
walk at our side and help us find our way.
Nearer and nearer each step we take together,
strangers no more, but friends,
Jesus makes known to us the Father’s love.
He shares with us the Father’s embrace.
And in that embrace, we discover life’s saving truth:
‘God is Family’, and we too, each one of us is God’s Family.
