Our nation’s courts donate hampers to migrant ministries

Migrant families have benefitted from hampers donated by four of the nation’s specialised courts.

The President, Vice President and Members of the Industrial Court of Trinidad and Tobago together with the Chairmen and Members of the Equal Opportunity Tribunal, the Environmental Commission and the Tax Appeal Board collaborated in a humanitarian outreach to assist families adversely affected by the impact of the novel coronavirus.

Former lay assessor at the Equal Opportunity Tribunal and Chair of the Archdiocesan Ministry for Migrants and Refugees (AMMR), Leela Ramdeen coordinated the distribution of the donated 175 food hampers: 49 essential grocery items and 126 bags of fresh produce grown by local farmers.

Speaking on behalf of Archbishop Jason Gordon, the AMMR and the recipient Parish Ministries for Migrants and Refugees (PMMR), Ramdeen thanked Justice Donna Prowell-Raphael, Chair, Equal Opportunity Tribunal “and all members of your four specialised courts for your kind generosity”.

“Your act of kindness in collaborating in this humanitarian outreach, stands like a beacon of light to point the way,” wrote Ramdeen, “demonstrating to others how, at this critical time, we in T&T can show compassion to those on the margins of our society.”

The hampers were collected by PMMR representatives and distributed May 8 to the migrant and refugee communities in Chaguanas, Carapichaima and Couva. A few were also distributed to families in Arima.
