Lent and Ramadan share a number of similarities.
Ramadan, like Lent, requires both acts of charity and discipline of fasting.
While many Christians fast during Lent, although fasting is not a universal Christian practice, fasting is the hallmark of Ramadan. Generally, Muslims fast for 30 days during the month of Ramadan—the holiest month in the Islamic calendar which begins today, April 24 and ends on Eid-al-Fitr, Saturday, May 24.
The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Port of Spain extends warmest greetings to the Muslim community. May this holy month of blessings be a time of contemplation and celebration.
