Santa Cruz RC has its Marian garden

Wednesday, January 15 was a historic day at Santa Cruz RC School as our new Marian garden was blessed by School Manager, Fr Hasley King O Carm and the statue of Our Lady of Mount Carmel was unveiled and crowned by the students.

Among the invited guests for the Service were Aurea Honore, CEBM Vicariate Manager, Suburban and members of the Carmelite family: friars, religious sisters and lay Carmelites.

Addressing students, homilist Fr Brent Alexis O Carm likened the statue of Our Lady to a picture of a loved one displayed in a home. He also questioned them about the role their mothers play in their lives.

In her address school principal Carol Jones thanked Fr King, staff and the Holy Cross Building committee for all their efforts in making this labour of love a reality. She also assured that the school’s Religious Education Committee has already planned activities surrounding the use of the garden.

Randy Joseph, member of the building committee thanked Mr Peter and Dr Chancy Mall of San Antonio Farms for the plants and manure; Tony Tang Kai for the layout of the garden; Marvin King, contractor; the Principal for her patience, perseverance and relentlessness in ensuring this 10-year dream became a reality.

He also thanked the students for their contribution and talent displayed which demonstrated their appreciation for the garden. He gave the students homework to identify the plants in the garden.

The celebration ended with a prayer offered by Fr King but composed by the Standard Three pupil who won the ‘Marian Garden’ competition.
