Coordinator appointed to migrants ministry

The local Church’s ministry to migrants and refugees will receive a boost with the appointment of Simone Francois-Whittier as Coordinator of the Archdiocesan Ministry to Migrants and Refugees (AMMR).

The AMMR falls under the remit of the Catholic Commission for Social Justice.

In a letter to clergy informing of the appointment, Chair Leela Ramdeen said while Francois-Whittier will be based at the CCSJ’s office at Archbishop’s House, she will be spending much of her time “travelling around the Archdiocese to fulfil her duties”. She will also be responsible for social justice research and advocacy, especially with young Catholics.

The new AMMR coordinator is an attorney-at-law with a Master’s degree in Philosophy—Government/Political Science, and has worked at the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, and the Ministry of Labour and Small Enterprise Development, to name a few.

Francois-Whittier was expected to take up the portfolio on Friday, November 1.
