The funeral for Lady Abbess Mother Marianna Pinto OSB will be held at the Benedictine Abbey, Coubaril, October 30, 3 p.m.

Archbishop Robert Rivas OP of Castries will be the main celebrant with Cardinal Kelvin Felix delivering the homily. Mother Abbess died 4.45 a.m. Thursday, October 3 in Martinique.

Born in Italy, she was appointed the First Abbess in 2007, and was instrumental in bringing the Benedictine presence to St Lucia, according to the website of the Abbess Assumption Benedictine nuns.

Mother Marianna Pinto was cremated in Martinique Monday, October 7. Her ashes arrived in St Lucia from Martinique by L’Express des Isles ferry October 11 accompanied by Sr Emmanuella OSB.

Abbot John Pereira OSB told Catholic News that the ashes were received by Archbishop Rivas. Clergy and religious of the Archdiocese of Castries along with Benedictine Oblates and friends of the monastery were invited to join the Benedictine nuns in a service at 5.30 p.m. for the formal reception of Mother’s ashes by the Archbishop.

The service will be in the form of Evening Prayers from the Office for the Dead. Mother Marianna’s ashes will be buried in the monastery in St Lucia.
