‘Mary has found her lamb’, ‘Pork Chop Con Salsa Batata’, ‘Chicken Lickin’, ‘Piggly Wiggly Pork’, ‘Believers’ Beef Burger’, ‘Barry’s Oink in Wine’, ’Hawaiian Fish Seasoned with Creation’and ‘Holy Goat’ were just a few of the dishes at the third ‘Priests Can Cook’ on Friday, September 27.
Quite a few Catholic clergy donned aprons and demonstrated their culinary skills to uplift Catholic education at the third edition of the fundraiser which attracted a large crowd at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain.
There was live entertainment as patrons dined, and Master of Ceremonies for the evening, DJ Jus Jase (Jason Alleyne) assisted with door prizes to a few lucky persons.
The event was a collaboration of the staff of Archbishop’s House, Catholic Education Board of Management (CEBM) with support from the CIC Past Students’ Union and St Joseph’s Convent, Port of Spain Past Pupils’ Association.
CEBM Chief Executive Officer Sharon Mangroo said the funds will be used to support student learning especially character formation at primary and secondary levels.
There was a good response from the public. “We are very happy with the event. The turnout appeared to be larger than last year and I noticed that persons who arrived early seemed to have a strategy based on last years’ experience for getting to the most popular dishes,” she said.
Mangroo said patrons reported a preference for the new venue and were very satisfied with the food. She said, “One person reported that having attended for the first time this year, she will never miss ‘Priests Can Cook’ again.”
What dishes did Mangroo try? “I was tempted to try the rabbit but was not brave enough. I had Fr Assing’s chicken, Deacon Derek’s ‘Fish in Sedition Sauce’ and some very good tasting pork but I forget whose.”
