Eustace Francis, Eardley Martin and Ancel Knights will be ordained permanent deacons November 1. Bishop Gerard County CSSp of Kingstown made the announcement after the deacon candidates took the next step on their journey to becoming permanent deacons by being instituted in the ministry of the acolyte during an August 18 Mass to celebrate the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (August 15). They received the ministry of lector in January.
In his homily, Bishop County thanked them for coming forward to be of service, reiterating that “it is all about service”. He urged the candidates to “be not afraid, let Mary be your guide”.
He said Mary was a true model and urged the congregation to reflect on her life and example. Mary’s courage was in her faithfulness and that “our faithfulness must make us available as disciples of Christ”.
