Last Sunday, September 8, marked the end of the 40 Day Rosary for Life with a candlelit procession around the Queen’s Park Savannah.
Archbishop Jason Gordon, before the procession, told those gathered that the launch of the forty days of prayer by the Emmanuel Community, occurred at a significant point when the nation was going through “a particularly bad stage”.
The final day’s walk, he said, was to “give thanks to God, to pray again for our country and nation” and to recognise both God’s mercy and grace during the period which heightened consciousness of the nation, prayer, and being Catholic.
There should have been as well, the burgeoning awareness that “the first work God wants us to do is in our own hearts”. The Archbishop continued: “…because if we are transformed to be the people that God wants us to be, then the nation will become the nation that God wants us to be.”
The 40 Day Rosary for Life began on July 31. The five decades were recited for The Unborn (first decade); Family Life (second); The Children of the Nation (third); The Preservation of Moral and Spiritual Values in our Nation’s Laws (fourth); and The Catholic Church (fifth).
