Carmelite journey continues for Br Mikhail

The Carmelite family celebrates with Br Mikhail Woodruffe O Carm and Br Paul Richmond O Carm on their profession of solemn vows at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Middletown, New York, which took place on Saturday, August 24.

Br Mikhail, originally from Barataria, began his Carmelite journey over 15 years ago, including a period of discernment and formation in the United States and Trinidad.

Br Paul, his classmate from New York, began his journey with the Carmelite Sisters for the Aged and Infirm, and journeyed together with Br Mikhail over these last seven years of formation.

Taking solemn vows is a lifelong commitment to live the evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity and obedience through the Carmelite way of life.

Prior Provincial of the St Elias Province and principal celebrant at the Mass, Fr Mario Esposito O Carm welcomed family and friends who travelled from near and far to witness this special occasion.

These included Carmelite friars Frs Gerard Tang Choon O Carm and Brent Alexis O Carm, family and friends. Trinidadian Deacons Kenwyn Sylvester, Kwesi Alleyne and Stephan Alexander generously joined the Shrine Choir to assist at the Mass.

Carmelite friars, sisters and Third Order members, together with members of various religious congregations were also present to celebrate with the brothers as they took this important step in their life.

In his homily, Fr Esposito reminded the brothers to pattern their lives on the Carmelite saints who were brave and bold, but just as silent and prayerful.

Br Mikhail will be ordained to the diaconate at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, Washington DC on September 7. —Br Gregg Durham O Carm
