Every year on August 22, the Church celebrates the Queenship of Mary and offers the reading Matt 22:1-4 for reflection in which Mary is seen as the bearer of the Divine Presence; the very life of God. Here we see Mary becoming the new arc of the covenant.
David dances before the arc, now, as John the Baptist dances in Elizabeth’s womb in the presence of God. Today, we too are dancing as one in the Caribbean through Carifesta XIV taking place in Trinidad.
Mary is a Queen not for position or monarch but a fighter in battle. The Bible explains how the priests of Jericho carry the ark of the Lord (Joshua 3:17) and the walls of Jericho tumbled. Mary, who carried Jesus, still trains her army which compels us to ask, “Are we a warrior for Christ we claim to serve?”
Remember, WE are the army of the Lord, fighting as a weapon- the weapon of the Spirit not of the world.
This is why we must join with the Church to honour and acknowledge the Queenship and motherhood of Mary.
