San F’do Boys’ RC ‘Cook-off’ has ‘GoT’ twist

One of the competing teams at the Curry Duck Cook-Off.

San Fernando Boys’ RC Past Student Association (PSA) hosted its third annual Curry Duck Cook-Off Competition at the school grounds at Harris Promenade, San Fernando on Saturday, June 29.

This very vibrant, pro-active and committed group of men have demonstrated the importance of giving back of their time, talent, and treasure, and they have all shown how much they love, respect and appreciate their alma mater.

Feeding off the vibes and excitement of the recently ended popular cable series, ‘Game of Thrones’ (GoT), the PSA decided to make the competition this year even more enjoyable and memorable and indeed it was.

Some of the teams that came out to show off their culinary expertise in preparing and cooking of curried duck and other dishes also chose names from GoT with an added twist.

The presentations were the highlight of the competition as each team tried their best to win the approval of the judges before the actual tasting and sampling of dishes prepared.

The teams were:

House Paratheon (House Baratheon) also known as Scramblements

Rip and Dip

Wood Witches of Sanderos—Power Women

Kritical Duckrakis

PTC- Parent Teacher Council (SFBRC School)

The categories for the competition were:

Best Curried Duck

Best Tasting Chow

Best Tasting Side Dish

Best Decorated Tent

Best Team Spirit/Vibes

All teams vied for ‘bragging rights’ as trophies were awarded for the various categories.

At the end of it all, it was a day of great comraderie, enjoyment and team spirit as the school manager, Fr David Khan, the principal, Donna Solomon, teachers present and of course the past students as well as sponsors and well-wishers all came out to support and give back.
