‘Think pink’ for Splash 5k

The Suburban Vicariate Youth (SUVY) Council hosted its sixth annual Splash 5k and football competition on June 19 at Erisa Indoor Court, Tacarigua with the theme Think Pink to walk/run with our brothers and sisters with cancer. The day started with a Zumba workout led by Shelci Marie Narine and despite the overcast conditions, the weather held up for the 5k from the UWI Chaplaincy to Erisa.

Members of the clergy were present and supportive: Frs Cornelius Phillip FMI, Ian Taylor, Gerard Tang Choon O Carm and Deacon Sheldon Narine.

The second part of the day which preceded the football started with praise and worship from St Theresa’s, Barataria parish with opening remarks from our Episcopal Delegate for Youth, Taresa Best Downes and a team presentation from all parishes within the Vicariate.

All parishes came to overthrow the two-time reigning champions Mary Immaculate Queen of the Universe (MIQU) Bourg Mulatresse and in the end, one parish was able to weather the storm to become new champions, Our Lady of Fatima (OLF) Curepe. They will represent the Vicariate at the national tournament, Shepherd’s Cup.

Special thanks to all parishes that competed as well as the supporters and the SUVY Council headed by our moderator Cindy Narine.
