Social, religious celebrations in Mayaro

The parishes of Mayaro and Rio Claro hosted a joint Sports and Family Day on June 19 at the La Savanne Recreation Ground, Guayaguayare. Parishioners journeyed from as far as Biche, Manzanilla and the outskirts of Rio Claro to have fun in the rain. Seven walk-past teams featured different tribes from the Old Testament and the events for both children and adults continued in the pouring rain.

The following day, June 20, the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, our procession saw a crowd larger than any in recent years and was treated to fine, sunny weather. First communicants, their catechists, parents and the large accompanying crowd of parishioners began the procession at 8.30 a.m. at the churchyard, processed to St Ann’s Junction on the Guayaguayare Main Road and back to the church where the celebration of the Eucharist continued. Frs Simon Peter Ango and Lindsay John led the celebrations.

Our feast day activities, June 30, Sts Peter and Paul, began with Mass for the fishermen and families at the main church, Sts Peter and Paul RC Church, Mayaro. This was followed by blessing of the boats in the three communities: Radix, Ortoire and Guayaguayare. The festivities followed with lots of sharing.
