The Society of St Vincent de Paul held their annual Sports and Family Fun Day on May 19 at the Prisons’ Grounds, Arouca. The day started with an Eucharistic Service led by Deacon Sheldon Narine, who delivered a powerful message to Vincentians in his homily.
The March Past followed and was inspected by our National President Rudolph Boneo and eventually won by the Malabar Conference.
The events and games were organised and carried out by the youth arm of the Society led by National Youth Coordinator, Kizzy Julien. This year’s events had something for everyone, from ages 1 to 100; there were even races for persons with disabilities.
Many of the conferences and institutions came out in their numbers to represent. Despite the threatening weather, conditions on the day held up beautifully. The Ministry of Social Development was also present with brochures and other interesting information to share with the public.
HADCO and Bryden’s were on the spot giving out ice cream and hot tea and coffee. Overall, the day was well spent with lots of fun and activities with the Mt Lambert delegation being the overall winners.
It was a day worth celebrating for a job well done by the youths and the other attendees for braving the intense weather—you all did an exceptional job. Special thanks to Kurt Cruickshank and Terrance Chariah for their assistance.
The tentative date for next year’s Sports and Family Day is Sunday, May 17, 2020. We are looking forward to seeing more conferences and institutions coming out in support of this event.—SVP Communications
