Diocese trains adults in child abuse prevention

Issues currently affecting Belize such as addiction and pollution, issues relating to the elderly, technology use, the call to vocation, abortion and violence and religious indifference were showcased as eight “live scenes” all over the country by various youth groups at the Diocese’s first Youth Easter Celebration, in Orange Walk Town, April 28.
The live scenes presented as “still snapshots” and others as “live GIFs” (short animated images running for just a few seconds that replay repeatedly) displayed the creativity of the young generation through powerful commentary on the issues.
The theme Witnesses of Christ’s Resurrection welcomed over a thousand youth from all over Belize. Activities included entertainment from local music groups, a Resurrection Walk, speakers, testimonies, presentations and a vocational fair. Petitions and readings were heard in English, Spanish, Garifuna and Ketchi—native to Guatemala and Belize.
The Christian Herald reported notable presentations including “moving gospel dramas”, a powerful skit on parenting and a song on the journey from desolation to consolation. Throughout the day, the various priests attending the event also heard confessions. “Many participants took part in the Sacrament of Reconciliation,” the article said.
The event closed with Mass celebrated by Bishop Lawrence Sydney Nicasio of Belize-City and Belmopan. He expressed his happiness at seeing the young, lively faces of the church present and stated his desire to know more about the activities being held at the various parishes.
