Let’s go ‘Sisters Can Cook V’

The Sisters of St Dominic’s Children’s Home are ready to serve the fifth edition of their inclusive cook-out ‘Sisters Can Cook 5’ on May 18, at Holy Name Convent, 2 Queen’s Park East, Port of Spain.

The food fest will feature the sisters’ dishes along with benefactors from around the country. Several popular restaurants and caterers will also feature signature dishes at the event, among them: Kapok, Boomerang and Grapevine.

Neighbouring past pupils’ associations from Belmont Boys’ Secondary, St Mary’s College, and Holy Name Convent are set to lend culinary support to the worthy cause. There will be entertainment and secured parking.

The funds raised from the event will assist in financing the extensions being made to the range of services offered by St Dominic’s. These services all fall within a continuum of care, inclusive of programmes geared towards children at the Home, many of whom have moderate to severe mental health issues.

“The Home is currently developing a Behavioural Wellness Programme aimed at providing developmental and therapeutic services for adolescents faced with mental health challenges, as well as support services for the members of their family system. This programme also includes life-skills training and the use of the creative arts and sports; its desired outcomes are tied to more harmonious family and social relationships as well as greater academic and vocational achievement,” explained Sr Arlene Greenidge OP, Manager at the Home.

She continued, “I was taught that the only sustainable development is child-centered development—we are asking the support of the public to help us to promote a positive future for the families grappling with adolescent mental health and, by extension, a brighter future for this our beloved nation.”

Tickets are priced at $300 and are available at the Home’s Main Office. Dinner is served from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Call 625-7081 or 625-7163 between the hours of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. to book your tickets. For more information, contact  Nakeshia Quamina, Event Coordinator at 706-4582.
